Media Statement COFIMVABA: South African Police Service formed part of the Provincial Government Delegation that engaged with community of Cofimvaba in Chris Hani District. The policing accountability engagement took place on Friday, 30 September 2022 at Matholanyile Location Qumanco Administrative Area, Cofimvaba. The multi-disciplinary engagement with the community was meant to resolve faction between the community and foreigners in the vicinity. It also aimed at ensuring collective efforts in fighting crime in the area. A number of stakeholders, inclusive of Eastern Cape Legislature and Mayoral Office honoured the event. Brigadier Zuziwe Magqashela, who represented SAPS Senior Management, opened her speech by commending and appreciating the sterling work by foot soldiers in protecting various communities in Chris Hani District. She presented efforts by the South African Police Service in ensuring safety and harmony in the area, and further called upon the community to support and work with the police to ensure safety and social cohesion. After engagement with the community, Head of Department for Community Safety, Mr Vuyani Mapolisa outlined sole responsibility of the community in ensuring safety and harmony in their own environments. "The community has a responsibility to restore social cohesion and moral fibre, so as to ensure safety and harmony in their own environments" he said. The community of Qumanco Area and surroundings looked positive after the engagement with government delegation. Ends
