Media Statement It is alleged that on Friday 21 October 2022 around 08:30, police members who were on routine patrol foiled a robbery at Dutywa Post Office. A shootout ensued between members and at least three armed men. Two suspects managed to escape, and one armed suspect who was trapped inside allegedly held nine employees at gunpoint. A back-up arrived, and with a police negotiator, who successfully negotiated for the release of nine employees. A 40-year-old suspect eventually surrender and was detained on charges of business robbery, kidnapping. With an additional charge of unlicensed firearm. A seized firearm is to be sent for ballistic investigation. The suspect is due to appear at Dutywa Magistrate Court on Monday (24/10). Police are following all leads and are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact 082 301 7762. Ends
