Minister and Deputy Minister of Police send heartfelt message of condolences to the families of the late Constables Myeza and Mafokoane, who were killed on duty

Media Statement from the Ministry of Police

South African Police Service

“During the time when most families are happily looking forward to a Holy Weekend of Easter, the Myeza and Mafokoane families will be laying to rest, their loved ones, and our heroes, who were brutally killed in line of duty”.

These are the laments made by Minister Nathi Nhleko and Deputy Minister Makhotso Maggie Sotyu.

The Ministry of Police is expressing outrage and deep sorrow after Constable Myeza and Constable Mafokoane were shot to death on N3 South Freeway on 29th March 2015.

These senseless killings come barely two weeks after the South African Police Service had lost another two police officers whilst on duty, albeit through a fatal car accident.

The Minister and the Deputy Minister of Police have lamented that: “when our police are victims, everyone looses”.

“We are on the firm prioritization process to ensure that all members of the South African Police Service are safe on the job, as we cannot allow our police officers to be targets of inhumane and senseless violence. In the meantime, as the Police Leadership, we will continue to demand for a hard stance and swift justice against those who are cop- killers, that lawlessness and aggression towards our men and women in blue will not be tolerated”, stressed the Minister and the Deputy Minister of Police.

Expressing their grief, the Minister and Deputy Minister of Police say: “our police officers, especially at low-ranked levels, continue to put their lives on the line everyday to keep South Africa and its inhabitants safe; and thus, their hard work demands our respect at all times”.

The funeral of the late Constable Mafokoane will be on Saturday, 4th April 2015 at Bolobedu in Tzaneen; whilst that of the late Constable Myeza will be held on Sunday, 5th April 2015 at Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal.

May their souls rest in peace. ENDS.
