Heidelberg police arrest 4 suspects for cell phone tower batteries

Swift response on a tipoff from the public led to the recovery of four cell phone tower batteries and the arrest of four suspects on the N2 highway near Heidelberg on Thursday, 01 July at about 14:05.

Vigilance members attached to the Heidelberg police were strategically deployed along the N2 highway in pursued of Volkswagen Polo which was en-route to Cape Town with stolen items on board. The members spotted the vehicle and stopped it when a search ensued. The search resulted in the recovery of the stolen items valued at more than R100 000. It was later linked to a prominent cell phone network provider.

The police arrested the foursome, in their early thirties, on a charge of possession of stolen property each.

In an unrelated incident, Dysselsdorp police near Oudtshoorn arrested a 23- year-old suspect after two stolen laptops were found in his possession. Investigation into a burglary which was perpetrated at a house at Johnson Street on Wednesday, 30 June 2021 took the police to the residence of the suspect. A thorough search of his premises led to the recovery of the stolen items.

All arrested remains in custody. They will appear in the various courts once charged.

The Western Cape police management applauded the members for their vigilance in pursuing these suspects and for bringing them to book.
