The incident occurred on 17 January 2023 at approximately 23:50 in Gasejane Village, Heuningvlei. A 36-year-old mother had briefly left her daughter in the care of her uncle while she accompanied a friend home. Upon her return, the child disclosed that she had been raped by the accused. The 42-year-old uncle confessed to the crime, was arrested, and subsequently charged with rape. On 18 August 2025, the Mothibistad Regional Court sentenced him to 20 years’ direct imprisonment. The Acting District Commissioner of John Taolo Gaetsewe, Brigadier Kenneth Baloyi, praised the dedication of the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Keitshwaretswe Tshikedi, and the collaboration of the National Prosecuting Authority. He emphasized that this sentence sends a strong message about the protection of women, children, and vulnerable groups, particularly as the nation observes Women’s Month. Ends
