Media Statement
POTCHEFSTROOM - Police in the Province are working tirelessly to monitor and attend to sporadic attempts to barricade entrances and / or exits to and from Lichtenburg town. While this is done to ensure public order and that the local community and travellers' daily activities are not affected, it is concerning to note that there are people who deliberately use social media to spread false and misleading information. A WhatsApp screenshot message with a picture of a person holding home-made "spikes", is currently being circulated. The author indicated that the spikes were found on the R52 road and Khudu Street T-Junction (entrance to Boikhutso). The police promptly responded, but nothing was found. Once again, we would like to request parents, community leaders and law-abiding citizens in Lichtenburg not to report false and misleading information to the police for necessary action to be taken, as this impacts negatively on the much needed resources.
