WESTERN CAPE - The vigilance of Central Karoo Flying Squad members deployed along entry and exit routes to the Western Cape, led to the confiscation of copper valued at R120 000 and the recovery of a stolen vehicle in Prince Albert.

On Thursday, 15 May 2025 at about 08:00, the members conducted a vehicle check point on the R407 at Prince Albert when they pulled over a Ford Figo. The vehicle sped off and a vehicle chase ensued with the members in pursuit who quickly caught up with the vehicle and brought it to a halt. A search of the vehicle ensued upon which the members discovered copper inside the vehicle. Police confiscated in excess of 104 kilogram of copper, an imitation firearm and the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was reported as stolen in the Eastern Cape.

The 43-year-old driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen property, possession of stolen motor vehicle and reckless and negligent driving. He remains in police custody and will appear in court once charged.
