NELSPRUIT - A number of cellphones and laptops were reportedly robbed at a school hostel in White River on the 03 August 2022.

It is alleged that about seven suspects stormed the hostel, instructed the learners to undress then searched them, taking their cellphones and laptops.

All goods were loaded in the Toyota Avanza belonging to the owner of the hostel. Police and local security companies responded to the incident and on their arrival, unfortunately the suspects had already fled the scene, using the Toyota Avanza as the gateway car.

The security cluster then launched a search with immediate effect resulting in the recovery of the empty vehicle in about half an hour at Spionkop Road outside White River.

Police request anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to contact the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111. Alternatively members of the community can send information via MySAPS App. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has applauded the team work that was displayed between the police and the security companies. The General further warned people not to buy stolen goods as they will also be equally charged for possession of suspected stolen property.
