Media Statement WESTERN CAPE - Illegal firearms were removed from the communities of Mitchells Plain and Paarl East when reliable information was received and followed up by dedicated members of Western Cape Crime Intelligence. On Monday, 26 February 2024 at 10:30, members conducted a search and seizure operation after information was received about illegal firearms and drugs being kept at a premises in Bertha Crescent, Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain. Members attached to Western Cape Crime Intelligence immediately operationalised the intelligence which led them to a premises where they searched and found a firearm with its serial number removed. They also found small quantities of drugs and ammunition of different calibers. They confiscated the firearm, ammunition and drugs and arrested an adult male on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and the illegal possession of ammunition and drugs At about 23:45, the members followed up information that illegal firearms are being kept at a premises in Lantana Street, Paarl East. Supported by Cape Winelands Crime Intelligence, Breederiver K9 Unit and Boland POPS, they searched the premises and seized a revolver, eight rounds of ammunition and a small quantity of drugs. A 34-year-old male was arrested Both suspects will appear in the Mitchells Plain and Paarl Magistrates’ courts respectively once charged. Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Thembisile Patekile, applauded the members for immediately acting on information received and encouraged them to keep up the good work in ensuring the removal of illegal firearms and drugs from communities.
