POLOKWANE - The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of a 25-year-old male suspect for rape and kidnapping of a 16-year-old female victim at Mahwelereng Moshate in Waterberg district.

 

It is reported that on Sunday, 12 April 2026, in the evening, the victim, who is a minor, alleged that she was kidnapped and raped by an unknown male suspect at knifepoint. The suspect used her bankcards to withdraw money at an ATM.

 

The preliminary investigation revealed that during the withdrawal of the money at the ATM, the suspect was captured on the close circuit Television (CCTV).

 

Through intelligence driven operation, the suspect was subsequently located at Maroteng Section Moshate on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, where he was arrested.

 

The suspect is expected to appear before Mahwelereng Magistrate's Court soon on charges of rape and kidnapping.

 

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the investigation team for their swift and decisive action in arresting the suspect involved in the inhumane act.

 

“This arrest will send a strong message that crime against our children and vulnerable members of society will not be tolerated,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
