GAUTENG - The South African Police Service in Gauteng can confirm the arrest of three police officers on 15 April 2026 for possession of suspected illegal substance and contravening Correctional Service Act of 115. The suspects were arrested in Boksburg Correctional Service Centre after dagga and drugs suspected to be mandrax tablets were found hidden inside two separate police vehicles used to collect and deliver suspects to court.

Two of the officers are attached to Tembisa police station and the third one is attached to Zonkizizwe police station.  The arrests followed a routine vehicle search conducted at the entrance of the facility, where Correctional Service officials uncovered the illegal substances inside the two vehicles.

The case will be investigated by Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI).

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has welcomed the arrests and reiterated that SAPS will act decisively against any member who undermines the rule of law. "SAPS maintains a zero-tolerance approach to criminality and corruption within its ranks, no member is above the law", said Lt Gen Mthombeni.

Internal disciplinary action has been instituted against the members in terms of SAPS disciplinary regulations.
