GAUTENG - In an effort to prevent the re-circulation of illegal mining equipment in the Ekurhuleni District, SAPS members, together with SANDF, CPF, and other stakeholders, conducted a destruction operation on Monday, 04 May 2026 at 10:30 at Allen Scrap Yard in Crystal Park, Ekurhuleni. The equipment, which had been confiscated during previous illegal mining operations, was destroyed on site. Items including phendukas, electric motors, stampers, steel balls, gas gauges, cutting torches, shovels, and steel pots were ground and cut into pieces. The operation was led by Ekurhuleni District Vispol Commander, Colonel Alistair Subramanian. He urged members of the public to report any information that could assist in the arrest of suspects involved in illegal mining activities in the Ekurhuleni District. Ends
