POLOKWANE - Tubatse police have opened a case of culpable homicide following an incident at Alberto Bridge, which resulted in the deaths of two teenage girls on Saturday, 02 May 2026.

Police on patrol duties were alerted to an accident at Alberto Bridge and responded to the scene. On arrival, they found Emergency Medical Services personnel who had declared a 14-year-old girl deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicated that four minor girls had accepted a lift in an unknown VW Polo motor vehicle at about 23:00, intending to travel to Ga-Motodi village. The vehicle reportedly changed direction towards Alberton, prompting the girls to exit the vehicle while in motion and flee on foot.

While running, two of the girls were struck by a white VW Polo motor vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The vehicle stopped at the scene. A 14-year-old victim died instantly on the street, and a 15-year-old girl was allegedly knocked off and fell into the river.

Police divers retrieved the lifeless body of the 15-year-old girl  from under the bridge on Sunday, 03 May 2026.

A case of culpable homicide has been registered for investigation.

Police investigations are continuing.
