FREE STATE – The Ficksburg police have arrested a 40-year-old woman from Meqheleng Township near Ficksburg in connection with the alleged murder of her two minor children. It is alleged that on 17 December 2025, a report was made indicating that the two children, a boy and a girl aged between three and five years, had allegedly passed away after buying snacks from a local tuckshop. Following preliminary investigations conducted on 18 December 2025, the case took a significant turn, resulting in the arrest and detention of the children’s mother. Post-mortem examinations will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death of both children. The suspect is expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court today, Friday, 19 December 2025. She is facing charges of two counts of murder and perjury.
The South African Police Service urges members of the community to remain calm and allow the law to take its course. The public is further cautioned against engaging in mob justice or any form of unlawful behaviour directed at tuckshop owners or the family of the deceased.
