Media Statement from KwaZulu Natal Media Centre Today, 23 November 2016, at about 12:30, Ethekwini Inner South Cluster Task Team recovered an abandoned BB Bakeries Bread Truck on Bright Road, in Welbedacht West. According to members of the task Team, the driver was en route to make a delivery when he was hijacked by two unknown suspects, one of the suspects were armed. The suspects robbed the driver of an undisclosed amount of cash and forcefully removed the driver from the vehicle and locked the driver in the back of the vehicle with the armed suspect. The armed suspect was guarding the victim, when he attempted to flee, resulting in a fight between the victim and armed suspect. According to the victim, a live round was fired, distracting the guarding suspect and giving the victim a chance to flee. The victim opened the vehicle door and jumped out of the moving vehicle onto the roadside, injuring himself. The suspects stopped the vehicle and abandoned it on the roadside, escaping with the cash. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. Members are searching the area for the suspects. The vehicle was abandoned with a full load of 151 loaves of bread. Ethekwini Inner South Cluster Commander, Major General Nunkumar commended members for recovering the abandoned vehicle. “Members will be working around the clock today to ensure that the hijackers are apprehended,” he said. .
