EASTERN CAPE - The East London based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) of the Hawks, in collaboration with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), have secured the sentencing of Siyamcela Fudumele (37) on a charge of theft on 30 January 2025.

Fudumele, who had been employed by the Department of Justice since 2015, was responsible for managing bail payments and fines through the Justice Deposit Account System (JDAS).The Hawks investigations revealed that the accused manipulated the system and misappropriated bail funds, resulting in a financial loss of R45 000 to the department.

The Komani Regional Court sentenced Fudumele to five (5) years’ imprisonment wholly suspended on the condition that he repays R41, 600 by 31 July 2025.

Furthermore the accused has been declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of section 103 Act 60 of 2000.
