Pretoria–Members of the police task team based at the OR Tambo International Airport are hard at work investigating the criminal activities of a Durban man who was arrested on 14 January 2016 for stealing a luxury vehicle belonging to a car rental company.

Nhlanhla Fortune Goba, 38, made a brief appearance in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on the 15th of January 2016 where he is facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, which he rented out and later claimed that someone known to him has taken the vehicle without his permission. Preliminary investigations by the South African Police Service’s task team based at the airport revealed that nothing of that kind ever took place.

Furthermore the detectives have already established that the man has as many as 10 cases against him- ranging from theft, assault and possession of suspected stolen property which have been committed in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Western Cape.

Investigations into Goba, who was remanded in custody pending his next appearance at the same court on 22 January 2016, are continuing.
