The Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences, Brig Sipho Kheswa lauded D/Sgt Matshidisho Boikanyo for recently securing two separate GBVF convictions through hard work and thorough investigations. Thuso Olifant (33) was sentenced on 02 May 2023 in the Mothibistad Regional Court for Attempted rape and assault of a 60-year-old female. On 02 February 2020 at about 13:00, the female was sleeping in her house in Ditlharapeng Village, Mothibistad when Olifant entered the house and forcefully tried to rape her. He assaulted her but she managed to escape and report the matter to the village chief. Olifant was arrested and sentenced to 5 years’ imprisonment for attempted rape of which 2 years is suspended for 5 years. He also received 2 years’ imprisonment for assault which is suspended for 5 years. In a separate incident on 01 April 2017 at about 02:00 in Heuningvlei, a 22-year-old female was raped while sleeping at her home. Tebogo Gaboinelwe (38) was arrested for the rape and sentenced to 13 years imprisonment in the Mothibistad Regional Court on 05 May 2023.
GBVF is one of the priorities for the police hence the SAPS management trust that these convictions will be a deterrent to other perpetrators who are thinking of committing similar offences. GBVF offenders will surely be dealt with the full might of the law and be granted no impunity.
