Media Statement PARKTOWN - The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, led yet another Operation O Kae Molao in Johannesburg District which resulted in the arrest of more than three hundred (300) suspects who committed serious and violent crimes that include armed robbery, murder, rape, possession of unlicensed firearms and dealing in drugs. The operation started with the tracing of wanted suspects and the detectives went out in full force to search for suspects that are still at large. The search was positive as police were able to apprehend 187 suspects who have been on the run. In the second phase of Operation O Kae Molao, police conducted a stop and search and a roadblock in Sophiatown to ensure that there were no illegal goods and substances transported by road users and to stop those who drive while under the influence of alcohol. More than twenty-five (25) suspects were arrested for possession and dealing in drugs, twenty-seven (27) people were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol, one suspect was arrested for possession of ammunition and more than sixty (60) undocumented foreign nationals were apprehended. Still, in Sophiatown, information was received about the brothers who had unlicensed firearms. Police proceeded to a house in Westbury and upon searching, two unlicensed firearms and more than 50 rounds of ammunition were recovered and the two brothers were arrested. Parallel operations were conducted in four other districts with Gauteng. Four hundred and twenty (420) suspects were arrested in Tshwane District, five hundred and twenty-six (526) suspects in Ekurhuleni District, one hundred and sixty-four (164) suspects in West Rand and sixty-nine (69) suspects in Sedibeng District. Arrested suspects will appear before various Magistrate Courts in Gauteng. Ends
