CAPE TOWN - In ongoing efforts to deal with gang violence and its manifestations, Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit detectives have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in front of the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s court and left one person dead while another victim was wounded on Monday.

The incident was captured in a video and circulated widely on social media platforms. The suspect will appear in court on Monday on charges of murder.

Meanwhile integrated operational interventions continue at identified crime hotspots in Cape Town  with cordon and search, lockdown and tracing operations gaining momentum. While the areas afflicted by shooting incidents are not out of the woods yet, police continue making their presence felt through targeted deployments. It is envisaged that deployments will remain in identified areas until calm is restored. An earnest plea is made to communities to cooperate with police officials deployed in their areas in the quest to create safer communities.

A strong contingent of police members from various units is also monitoring conflict within the taxi industry where shooting incidents were recorded recently.
