UITENHAGE– An alert security official assisted members from the South African Police Service in Uitenhage and they pounced on a 23-year-old male burglary suspect at 23:30 last night, Thursday, 2 February 2017.  It is alleged that the suspect used a brick to break the window of a restaurant in Church Street, Uitenhage.  The security official noticed the broken window and notified the local police members who spotted the suspect a few meters from the scene.

The 23-year-old suspect was questioned and it emanated that he allegedly broke the window to try to gain access to the shop.  He is due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 6 February 2017 on a charge of attempted house breaking at a business premises.  Uitenhage Station Commander, Brigadier Laurence Soekoe commended the officials involved and said: “due to an integrated approach by both the security official and SAPS members, it contributed to the successful arrest of the suspect and through their actions it helped us in our crime-reduction strategy”.
