Potchefstroom: Rustenburg Cluster Trio Tusk Team arrested two suspects aged 31 and 35 in the early hours of today, in Boitekong while the third suspect aged 31 was arrested yesterday for business robbery and four counts of attempted murder.
The suspects' arrest emanated from an incident in which congregants were robbed of their valuables while in church just outside Rustenburg town along R510 road on Sunday, 19 March 2017. It is alleged that three suspects, two of them armed with firearms fired several shots inside the church and robbed congregants of their belongings including cell phones, pair of sunglasses and a wallet. Four people were allegedly injured apparently due to gunshots. The suspects then fled the scene on foot but the congregants managed to arrest one of them (suspects) immediately and recovered 20 cell phones.
All three suspects will appear in the Rustenburg Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 22 March 2017 facing a charge of business robbery.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane condemned the incident and indicated that incidents such as this one will not be tolerated. She also commended the police for their quick response that led to arrest of the last two suspects.
