Media Statement from Limpopo Media Centre Members of the Lephalale Cluster, under the leadership of cluster commander Brigadier Masia, conducted a crime awareness campaign in Marapong outside Lephalale. The door-to-door campaign’s main objective was to educate the community on the prevention of sexual offences such as rapes. Pamphlets were distributed to community members with safety hints and information on reporting these types offences. Many people are uninformed and it has come to the attention that cases are reported, but later on cancelled due to so called ‘gentleman's agreement’. In most instances, cases are not reported. Brigadier Masia encouraged the public to report any crime immediately after it occurred and stated that victims of sexual offences will receive medical treatment and counselling. The campaign was attended by members of SAPS Lephalale Cluster Stations, FCS Unit, CPF, Department of Health as well as various other role players. -End-
