The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa expressed his shock when he heard about the death of a police officer stationed at Newcastle K9 Unit. The member died in the line of duty when he was needed the most. He was performing his duty to protect and serve the community of Madadeni when he was attacked. “I strongly condemned the killing of police officers and it is a concern to us. The community must stand up and get involved in stopping this kind of attack. I sincerely send my condolences to the family, friends and his colleagues for the pain they suffered when the news of his death broke out. I want to assure the community that we will thoroughly investigate this case and make sure that the suspect is prosecuted and get harsh sentence should he found guilty by the court,” he said.

On 27 June 2017 at 13:45, Warrant Officer Sascha Naidoo (45) and his colleagues were on duty when they attended a complaint of assault where a woman was stabbed at Section 7P at Madadeni area near Newcastle.
