The Western Cape SAPS Management has once again expressed delight at the news of conviction of Saliem John by the Western Cape high court today, the 11 February 2014. Saliem was arrested by the police under the auspices of Operation Combat after his involvement in criminal activities which included Murders. He is also the same person that was attacked on the steps of the Western Cape High Court by a gunman, who was shortly thereafter arrested. Operation Combat is the Western Cape's operational strategy to eradicate Drugs and Gang activities in the province. This strategy has achieved a number of victories in destroying and disrupting drugs and gang strongholds within the Western Cape communities and under the leadership of its commander, Major General Vearey.

Tomorrow, the 12th February 2014 the Western Cape High Court is expected to hand down a sentence in relation to the three Murders for which he has been found guilty today. For this reason, all Media is invited to a media briefing which will be conducted immediately after the sentencing in the High Court. Major General Vearey will also be available to take questions and give clarities on the background and details of these cases.
