WESTERN CAPE - The Cape Town Regional Court have today, 19 September 2025 sentenced Nafiz Modack (44) to ten years imprisonment for corruption of which three years is suspended for a period of five years. The accused will effectively serve seven years direct imprisonment. The court ordered that the accused be declared unfit to possess a firearm.

This follows after he was convicted on 6 June 2025. It was reported Modack was involved in criminal activities with the former senior police officer, Brigadier Kolindren Govender. The latter had since pleaded guilty and sentenced. Investigation by the Hawks' Serious Corruption Investigation revealed that Modack acted with common purpose by paying gratification in a total amount of R146 000.00 to Govender in return for special treatment.

Endorsing these corruption activities, Govender prevented a cooperation between an officer from SAPS Paarl Vehicle Indentification Section and the investigating officer in a matter based at Cape Town Central SAPS. As a result of Govender's actions the Mercedes Benz which belonged to Modack was never seized as it was the centre of investigation.

The Acting Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in the Western Cape, Brigadier Ramovha, expressed his satisfaction with the sentence imposed and lauded the investigation and prosecution teams for their perseverance in ensuring that justice is served.
