In line with the Ministerial six point plan, to promote and protect the rights of women, children and vulnarable group, Berlin police together with CPF built a yard, bought paint and installed burglar doors and windows for a 67 year old victim of sexual offences crime (rape) in Mhlabathi locality, during the safety awareness for elderly in Berlin today.

Community members came in numbers and filled the Mabaleni community hall to capacity. We were entertained by traditional dances during the day's proceedings.

A team led by Mdantsane Cluster CPF Chairperson, Mziyanda Noqayi together with Berlin station commander, Captain Nelani had built a solid fence, bought paint and installed the burglar doors and windows around the victim's house in an attempt to create safety, following the traumatic incident that happened to her few months ago.

Initiatives of this nature truly show that indeed the partnership between the police and the community police forum (CPF) is bearing fruits in Berlin policing precinct. The victim, Nomvula Sango, who had since left her house fearing for the repeat of the incident that happened to her few months ago, has now returned home. "I feel very safe now, I left my house to stay with my relatives in Mdantsane, but now I am coming back to my house. My commendation goes to the SAPS and CPF for putting a fence around my house and the formation of village committee in my area," she said.

These village committees will help to prevent all types of crimes in the rural areas, especially crimes against women, children and the most vulnerable (elderly).

Other government departments like social development, education to mention but a few also graced the event in the name of "Batho Pele principle." Indeed this was in the spirit of service delivery.

Community members were also given a chance to speak, as it is a procedure in Imbizo. Their inputs were positive and full of gratitude to Berlin station Commander, Capt Nelani and his team for serving them with pride.

Messages of support were also received from the safety & liaison district manager, Miranda Sinqoto and the NGO's.

Berlin Chairperson, Mr Mvuyisi Taleni thanked everyone in attendance and urged the community to keep the same spirit of supporting the police in a fight against crime. "Ayihlome against gender based violence"
