A 35-year-old suspect will appear in the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for dealing in drugs. The suspect was arrested on 6 December 2017 at 14:00 during the police operations in the area. The members from Ulundi Task Team and Vryheid were conducting their Festive Season operations in the area when they noticed a suspicious-looking VW Polo vehicle travelling in the Central Business District, Vryheid. The members became suspicious and the vehicle was stopped and searched. The driver was found in possession of CAT drug contained in a transparent plastic bag. On further investigation, they also found more drugs under the driver’s seat and he was immediately arrested. The street value of drugs is estimated at R300 000. It appeared that the suspect was out on bail after he was previously charged for drugs.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa welcomed the arrest and the recovery of drugs at Vryheid area. “I commend our members for their alertness and dedication they showed while performing their festive season operations. This proves our commitment in strengthening our efforts in bringing down crime during this festive season. Such operations will continue in all parts of the province to ensure that those involved in criminal activities are brought to book,” he said.
