Western Cape: Strides being made to remove illegal firearms in the Nyanga Policing Precinct continue to result in success.

Yesterday 2018-04-19 six suspects were arrested in Browns Farm and Nyanga. Two suspects were apprehended at about 15:30 by members of the Nyanga Cluster Crime Combatting Team who were on patrol in Bristol Road in Browns Farm. One suspect was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and six live rounds of ammunition and the second one was found in possession of drugs. This is the second firearm to be recovered in Bristol Road in just two days. On Wednesday 2018-04-18 another illegal firearm was recovered by members of Nyanga Crime Prevention.

Four more suspects were apprehended by members of the Nyanga Sector Crime Team when they were conducting patrol duties in Govan Mbeki in Nyanga. The four were stopped in a vehicle that was driven so recklessly that police members stopped and searched the vehicle. A gas gun was found hidden under the seat of the vehicle.  Imitation guns are taken seriously because they are used in the commission of crime to threaten victims.

The six suspects, aged between 22 and 34, are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court, once charged for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, possession of drugs and possession of an imitation firearm.

These confiscations and arrests are an indication of the police members’ zeal and dedication to root out criminals and illegal firearms in Browns Farm and other sectors of the Nyanga precinct.
