I would also like to thank the Eastern Cape police for this evening. Take off your jackets and feel welcomed."

Mr Gqwetha-CPF Provincial Chairperson explained the purpose of the day, "No matter how small and insignificant, your efforts are as a CPF members is recognised. This is to say thank you to those members and saying go back and do more."

Opening her address, Lt Gen Ntshinga said this event is part of her vision of 'RRR' which deals with restoration of dignity: "From the time l took the reins at this province l had deep affinity with communities. I have discovered the comfort of not being office bound and therefore strike a healthy balance between the office and the community," said the Provincial Commissioner.

Lt Gen Ntshinga said since their inception, the CPF played a significant role in preventing crime with passion and patriotism, rendering a voluntarily service; without a salary. This work and significant progress is evident in strides accomplished and sacrifices made by the CPF members.

It is critical as we honour the CPF to remember where CPF comes from and what is its role, added Lt Gen Ntshinga.

Business community must do more to assist CPF. We also need to ensure that CPF do their work and their safety is guaranteed she quipped. She said police cannot fight crime alone but need the community and CPF.

"In order to achieve the government vision 2030, it means we must rally behind our CPFs. Let us strengthen our relationship and partneship", said Lt Gen Ntshinga.

"Your selfless contribution is today recognised as we issue commendation certificates to recognise your selflessness and patriotic contribution in the fight against crime," added Lt Gen Ntshinga.

Leading the keynote address, Chairperson of Portfolio Committee on Safety and Liaison, Mr Peter said: "The women are participating more in CPF activities but we need more youth as they are most vulnerable to crime."

He said it is a special day to make important statement instead of speeches.

"We have 6,7 million people in the province and l have travelled extensively to promote the work of the CPF. I am also happy with the new clusters and their approach to establishment of CPFs. The transformation of safety and security industry is very necessary and inevitable. Development along the coast result in inland to coastal movement and all those visitors must arrive here and feel protected. Although crime is an International problem, all must find inovative ways to fight crime," explained Mr Peter.

He recalled a dark cloud at Engcobo where the partnership we have with the people led us to a breakthrough.

"Because ordinary citizens said something to the police, criminals were apprehended," elaborated Mr Peter.

At least 22 recipients, each from each 22 clusters including members of Provincial CPF Board were awarded and recognised with commendation certificates.

Provincial Head: Crime Prevention -Brigadier Ntsabo delivered a vote of thanks as his component works closely with Community Police Forums.
