Ilembe Cluster Task Team members with Public Order Police conducted an intelligence driven operation in the early hours of 15 June 2018 at Ndwedwe area and confiscated three unlicensed firearms and 25 kilograms of dagga. Police arrested two males aged 31 and 49 in different homesteads at Malangeni Reserve.

A 31-year-old male was found with a revolver and one round of ammunition. A 49-year-old male was found with a revolver, a pistol with three rounds of ammunition and dagga in his possession. Firearms had its serial numbers filed off and suspects were charged for possession of unlicensed firearms. Possession of dagga charge was added to a 49-yerar-old suspect. They appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrates’ Court on 15 June 2018 and were remanded in custody until 22 June 2018.

Another operation was conducted on 16 June 2018 by EThekwini Inner and Outer West Cluster members where they arrested a 32-year-old suspect and recovered a homemade revolver with four rounds of ammunition at Ophuthwini area, Inchanga. He was charged and will appear in the Camperdown Magistrates’ Court on 18 June 2018. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if they were used in any crime in the country.
