Media Statement from KwaZulu Natal Media Centre Task Team led by Warrant Officer Sithole from Mbongolwane police made a breakthrough when they arrested a 22-year-old Mkhubeni Zulu for four counts of murder after a warrant of arrest was issued against him. Zulu will appear tomorrow, 5 March 2015 in the Ekombe Magistrates’ Court and will be joined by his co-accused Thandanani Khanyile (27) who is still in custody after his arrest on 19 February 2015. It is alleged that on 14 June 2014 at about 19:00 four people, Sipho Myaka (62) and his wife Lindiwe Zulu (61), their herd man Philani Mbatha (40) and their neighbour Majuqa Linda (43) were at their homestead at Shobalenyathi area, Ekombe when they were approached by a group of suspects who allegedly shot and killed them. A case of four counts of murder was opened at Ekombe police station for investigation. It is suspected that they were killed because Myaka’s eleven cattle were stolen and the arrested suspects were suspected to be involved in the stealing of the cattle. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the arrest made by the members after their hard work investigating this case. “I strongly condemned such brutal killings where four people were shot and killed by criminals. We hope that the suspects will serve a long term in jail if found guilty,” she said.
