Media Statement from Limpopo Media Centre The South African Police Service in Limpopo continue to roll-out various community engagements sessions in various problematic areas aiming to strengthen the fight against crime. This was done through various community outreach programs and crime awareness campaigns. These initiatives are led by the SAPS Station and Cluster management teams in partnership with different stakeholders. In the Vaalwater Policing area, a crime awareness campaign was conducted at Vaalwater Community hall in partnership with the following stakeholders: Department of Social Development, EMS, Polokwane Busasa, Tekani construction and training, Go Getta Generation, Waterberg Welfare and Society, Waterberg waves Radio, Love Life, Kgatelopele, Red Cross, Hospice, Lilian Ngoyi creche and Magled creche. The following topics were addressed:
* Dangers of Drugs and Alcohol abuse. Meanwhile in the Tzaneen Cluster, the same initiative was carried out during a Cluster Commander's Imbizo coupled with a crime awareness campaign and Sports Against Crime event. The Cluster Commander Major General Maggy Mathebula addressed the various stakeholders and community at large during this event which was held at ga-Sekgopo village. The Cluster Commander in her speech, encouraged the community to work together with the police and emphasised that safety must be everyone's responsibility. The community was also encouraged to form neighbourhood watch programs and other community base crime prevention structures to create a crime free society. The Following Stakeholders formed part of the initiative: Greater Letaba Municipality, Department of Social Development, CPF, YCP, CSF and the Tribal Authority. The following teams participated: The Rover FC VS Barcelona FC at Dikolobe sports field around. For community policing to be successful, it is important for members of the community to realise and accept that they also have a social and moral obligation to assist and support the SAPS in the fight against crime. With the support and involvement of the community, the police will be in a position to meet the safety and security needs of the country. The ‘Back to Basics’ approach being followed by the SAPS, embraces partnership policing. Partnership-policing, a strategic anchor of our policing philosophy is a fundamental principle because it is premised along a view that it is not the police alone who combat and prevent crime. If you do not have all the answers, phone Crime Stop anyway. Maybe what you do know is just the missing piece of a puzzle the SAPS is working on, but lacks crucial information to solve. Ends.
