KING WILLIAM’S TOWN: Butterworth Regional Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 25-year-old man to undergo forty years imprisonment for raping his 13-year-old cousin sister. The accused was sentenced on Friday, 30 November 2018.

It is alleged that the accused went to the homestead of the victim on 13 November 2015 at about 11:00 at Mthuvi Locality, Thaleni Village, Dutywa. He found the victim alone and raped her. A case of rape was registered at Dutywa Police Station. The case was later handed over to Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).

The accused was traced and arrested. The accused cannot be identified as he is related to the victim to protect the identity of the victim. Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu has welcomed the stiff sentence handed to the accused as it will serve as a lesson to the cruel men who are raping women and children.
