Media Statement from Eastern Cape Media Centre KWAZAKELE: The Motherwell Cluster Operational Command Centre (OCC) members arrested a 41-year-old male suspect last night for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. This followed after the members spotted the suspicious suspect at 21:00 standing next to the road in Mavuso Street, Kwazakele. On searching him they found a 7,65 mm pistol with seven (7) rounds of ammunition hidden in his pants. On testing the firearm, it was discovered that the firearm is licensed to a 63-year-old male in Krugersdorp. The firearm was not reported as stolen. The suspect was arrested on charges of the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and will be appearing in the New Brighton Magistrates Court on Wednesday 5 December 2018. Further investigation is being done in terms of the legal owner that failed to report the firearm as lost or stolen. The Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie has applauded the arrest and added "Firearm owners have a responsibility to safeguard their fire arms. One cannot simply sell or give such a firearm to another person to keep or possess without the legal procedures in terms of the Firearms Control Act. Owners will face charges in terms of the act where it is not followed and adhered to and where other persons are found in possession of such firearms." Ends.
