KIMBERLEY - The Prosecution and Investigation teams led by Mr Kenneth Motsatse and Detective Constable Boitshepo Bele successfully secured a 15 year prison sentence, that was handed down by the Postmasburg Regional Court to 33-year-old Lethlogonolo Mothupi, following the rape of a 29-year-old female victim in Boichoko location, Postmasburg on Tuesday, 08 August 2023.

The Court heard that the victim was on her way home through Mongake Street in Boichoko, when she was suddenly grabbed from behind by the accused demanding sexual intercourse with her.

The victim refused this request and the accused who at this stage was known to her, assaulted her by hitting her with a rock on her head and raped her.

The Court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment for rape and was declared unfit to possess a firearm and also ordered that his name be recorded in the National Register for Sex Offenders.

The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General, Koliswa Otola commended both the Investigation and Prosecution teams, citing that Gender Based Violence and Femicide remains a priority for the Criminal Justice Cluster.

The police will continue to advocate for strengthened partnerships in protecting women and children.

General Otola also encourages the public to rate the police efforts in fighting crime by participating in the "RATE OUR SERVICE" online survey to assist the police in improving services and to report criminal activities via the MySAPS App or 08600 10111.
