Media Statement Nelspruit: The police in Vosman are probing an inquest case following the death of a man at North Street in Clewer near Vosman on Thursday, 29 June 2023 whilst his wife is fighting for her life in hospital. Preliminary investigations thereof suggest that the man could have died from smoke inhalation. According to information, a concerned neighbour went to check on a couple residing in his neighborhood after being suspicious when he did not see them that morning until around 09:00. He reportedly went to their house only to find that the husband and wife were showing no sign of movement. That was when he alerted the authorities and paramedics as well as police went to the scene. Upon arrival, the man was unfortunately certified dead by the medical team. Meanwhile the wife was taken by an ambulance to hospital for medical treatment. Thus far police discovered that there was fire in the house made out of coals, hence it is suspected that the couple could have inhaled smoke. However investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death. The ages of the two as well as their identities are unknown at this stage. The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has been saddened by the man's death and has sent words of condolences whilst wishing a speedy recovery to the wife. The General has pleaded with members with members of the community to take extra precaution when using various items or equipment to warm themselves this winter season in order to prevent loss of life. "Though it is very cold, we advise our people to rather ensure that there is ventilation by opening windows whenever they are using things like coals to make fire" said the General. Ends
