Media Statement On Friday, 29 January 2021 at the Sterkspruit Regional Court three accused were each sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. It is alleged that on 6 May 2017 the victim and the accused were consuming liquor at Tesh tavern at 17:45. A quarrel broke out between them that continued outside the tavern. By the time the fighting continued outside the tavern three other men joined in. The victim were assaulted with empty bottles, shearing scissors, knife and panga. As the suspects realized the victim, 23-year-old Keletso Thakudi, passed away they decided to drag him across the Upper Tele River to the side of Lesotho in order to mislead the SAPS in the investigation. The case was assigned to Sgt Luyanda Tshangela and after thorough investigation, following up on all possible leads the four suspects were arrested at Upper Tele on the 1 June 2017. Due to the fact that during the evening of the incident there were no eye witnesses during the investigation one of the suspects decided to become a state witness. The three accused Zukisani Tyhaliti (21), Sisamkele Beje (19) and Vukile Shumane (31) were all sentenced to life imprisonment on 29 January 2021 at the Sterkspruit Regional Court. The acting District Commissioner Brigadier Rudolph Adolph commended the Investigating officer Detective Sgt Luyanda Tshangela on the professional investigation of the case that led to the conviction and sentence of the three accused.
