Media Statement from Western Cape
Media Centre 13 April 2014 The Mitchell's Plain Cluster continues its focus on Gangsterism and drugs. A reflection of this is in the following successes achieved through a good relationship with the community structures such as the Street Committees and Neighbourhood Watches who continually inform the police of where crime is committed. This information is being followed up immediately. For the past week, the Lentegeur, Mitchell's Plain and Strandfontein members held Crime Prevention Operations whereby 30 houses were searched for drugs and 154 suspects being arrested for drug related cases. They found 112g of heroin, 180g of tik, 136 mandrax tablets and 268g of dagga. Four shebeen operations were conducted whereby two owners got arrested for trading without a licence, and 64.5 litres of alcohol was confiscated. The eight Tracing Operations carried out led to the arrest of 77 wanted suspects on various crimes. Two firearms were confiscated and two suspects arrested for possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition, 123 Spaza shops were visited. One Hundred and forty one Crimes Against Women and Children cases followed up and attended to, led to 32 perpetrators arrested. The Mitchell's Plain Cluster management want to thank all community structures of Mitchell's Plain who joined the South African Police Service in combating crime. We further urge the community to remain vigilant and to contact their respective Sector Commanders should they have any information. Those who have not yet joined our structures should do so by becoming part of their street committees in their respective streets. -End- Media Enquiries: Captain FC
