Media Statement NELSPRUIT - The hardwork by members from Operation Vala Umgodi was not in vain as 03 illegal immigrants, aged between 19 and 25, were sentenced to six (06) months imprisonment by the Pilgrim's Rest Periodical Court on Wednesday, 09 July 2025. After serving their sentence, the three will be deported back to their respective countries of origin. At the time of their arrest, on 02 July 2025, the astute members were conducting a disruptive operation at Diggings in Pilgrim's Rest area. The initial report indicates that the foreign nationals were charged for Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa. Police investigators worked collaborately with officials from the Department of Home Affairs in the case. The accused were identified as follows: * Eduaro Arthur Mbonza (25) * Diago Lucas Kunyane (20) * Lawrence Mawelele (19) The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has been elated by the sentence handed down to the perpetrators. The General further encouraged members to continue with the good work they are doing.
