DURBAN - Yesterday morning, a multi-disciplinary operation was conducted at Emanguzi looking for a vehicle taken during a house robbery in the area.  The police officers spotted a vehicle fitting the same description at Mfihlweni area.

When the police officers attempted to intercept the said vehicle, the occupants started to shoot towards the officers and a shoot-out ensued. One suspect was fatally wounded whist the others fled the scene on foot into the bushes. The vehicle was recovered and the outstanding suspects are being sought by the police.

It is alleged on 2 April 2019 at 02:00, the victim (57) was at home sleeping with her children when they were approached by suspects who demanded her car keys and household appliances. The suspects stole a grass cutter machine, cellphones and cash before fleeing the scene in victim’s motor vehicle. The victim immediately reported the case to the Emanguzi police station.

In a separate incident, an off-duty Emanguzi police officer followed up information with regards to a suspected stolen vehicle which was about to cross the border. The police officer asked for back-up and the suspected vehicle was spotted five kilometres before the Kosi Bay border. The vehicle was stopped and two suspects aged 45 and 48 were arrested.

The vehicle was searched and it was found that the engine number was tampered with. Both suspects were arrested and charged for being in possession of suspected stolen property. They are expected to appear in the Emanguzi Magistrates Court tomorrow.
