POLOKWANE - The South African Police Service in Limpopo remains persistent in fighting the scourge of illegal mining by conducting continuous disruptive operations in different parts of the Province.

Following thorough investigation and intelligence gathered about illegal mining activities at Legabeng Village in Mecklenburg policing area under Sekhukhune District, a multi-disciplinary disruptive operation comprising of the Public Order Police, Sekhukhune District Vispol members, and Department of Home Affairs was activated on Thursday 17 August 2023.

The operation led to the arrest of three suspected illegal miners aged between 29 and 35 (two males and one female).

The team also managed to seize eight Wheelbarrows, seven Generators, seven Jackhammers and four Shovels.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest and that the disruptive operations are making a huge impact in the Province due to existing partnership with various stakeholders as well as the communities.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Mecklenburg Magistrate's Court soon.
