PRETORIA - Today, the Organised Crime Unit of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks) in Middleburg arrested two Mozambican men for dealing in drugs.

The suspects, who are both in their thirties, were accosted by the Hawks' investigating team acting on information next to the Middelburg toll plaza.

On searching their vehicle, the police found 3, 5 kg of ephedrine worth over R250 000, 00 that was concealed under the spare tyre in the boot.

It was then established that the suspects were from Mozambique and were en route to Johannesburg to deliver the drug-manufacturing chemical.

They will appear in the Middelburg Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 5 June 2014, on charges of dealing in drugs.

This comes a day after the Hawks in Gauteng arrested a 42-year-old Pakistani national, Amir Aris Khan, with 40 kg of heroin. He appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates' Court today and his case was postponed to 13 June for bail application. He was remanded in custody.

"We are determined to disrupt all drug-supplying networks to our country. These precursors are ravaging our communities," said the Head of the Hawks in Mpumalanga, Major General Simon Mapyane.
