POTCHEFSTROOM - Police have arrested four people for public violence during a community protest in the early hours on Saturday, 17 May 2014 at Sunrise Park in Boitekong.

The unrest in the area started on Thursday, 15 May 2014, when residents from the Dichibidung Section (Sunrise Park) went on rampage, blocking roads and looted some shops on what appears to be linked to electricity cut-offs by the Municipality due to the illegal connections.

Yesterday night, concerned residents from Sunrise Park also took to the streets, blocked roads and plunged the area into darkness in protest for services. It is alleged that a shop was looted in the process.

Four suspects aged between 20 and 27 were arrested and are due to appear in Rustenburg Magistrates' Court soon facing charges of public violence.

Police will continue to monitor the situation.
