Police Constable arrested for conspiracy to commit a robbery

FREE STATE – A 34-year-old woman Constable attached to the South African Police Service’s is expected to appear today at the Bloemfontein Magistrate court  facing charges of corruption, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and theft.

The Constable was arrested Tuesday, 08 October 2019 in joint operation by the Hawks and Crime Intelligence after information emerged that she was allegedly conspiring to steal firearms from her unit.

A clandestine operation was activated immediately where she met up with the ‘robbers’ and handed them her state firearm to commit the robbery.  A while later the two criminals emerged with the alleged loot - 2 (two) R5 rifles with 2 magazines with 96 rounds of ammunition and 4 (four) 9mm pistols with 11 magazines and 165 rounds of ammunition,

The suspect was paid R30 000 for her efforts which on receipt led to her downfall. All the stolen firearms were seized including her pistol, her vehicle and cell phone.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in the Free State, Major General Kubandran Moodley, hailed the quick operation which could led to a catastrophic situation and possible loos of lives if the robbery did took place. He also expressed his concern regarding these types of crimes concerning corruption within the SAPS.

Major General Moodley however conveyed his gratitude to the members of Crime Intelligence and the Hawks, Serious Corruption Unit, Bloemfontein and Pretoria who acted with speed and intercepted the information and acted upon it to ensure that no loss of life occurred or that the firearms ended up in the hands of ruthless criminals.
