KOPANONG - Mangaung FCS Unit welcomes the life sentence handed down to 38-year-old Jan Keholotse for the rape of a minor.

The incident occurred on Christmas Day, 25 December 2025, in the Ipopeng Square area. It was alleged that the 4-year-old victim’s mother became concerned when she could not find her daughter. After being informed by a friend that the child was at the neighbour's shack, the mother proceeded to the location where she forced entry.

Upon entering the premises, she discovered her daughter naked on a bed, with the suspect, Keholotse, partially undressed. The mother immediately rescued her child and sought assistance at the Kopanong police station.

The case was assigned to Sergeant Princess Tsubane of the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. Through diligent investigative work and a strong partnership with Advocate York from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), a water-tight case was presented before the court and the suspect was found guilty of rape.  He was sentenced to life iprisonment, and his name Jan Keholotse, will be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO).

The SAPS encourages the public to continue reporting incidents of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) to their nearest police station or via the Crime Stop Number: 08600 10111.
