Media Statement from KwaZulu Natal
Media Centre 25 April 2014 Chatsworth Crime Intelligence Unit assisted by Durban Flying Squad as well as Bayview SAPS members made a breakthrough when they arrested a 28-year-old suspect in Durban yesterday, 24 April 2014. The members were following information about a wanted suspect in an attempted murder case that was reported at Bayview area this month. The suspect was located at Smith Street, Durban and he was arrested. During the investigation, the members found five unlicensed firearms and ammunition from the suspect. Some of these firearms were stolen in the Pinetown and Durban Central area. The suspect is believed to be part of a gang committing house robberies in the Greater Durban area. He will appear in the Chatsworth Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 29 April 2014, facing attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the good work done by the members. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the country. Crime Intelligence members will work hard to try and linked the suspect with other house robbery cases that were reported in Durban and the surrounding areas. -End- Media Enquiries: Captain Thulani Zwane
