WESTERN CAPE - Police members of Operation Restore, deployed in Delft area for integrated high density crime prevention duties continued to reap rewards through the confiscation of drugs and firearms on Saturday 10 June 2023. Members received information of drugs being kept at a residence situated in Slangway, Leiden, Delft. Upon their arrival members discovered and confiscated packets of crystal meth and mandrax tablets. Three suspects aged 22, 39 and 67 were arrested on charges of possession of drugs. Once charged, they will appear in the Bellville Magistrates court on the mentioned charges. The members furthermore followed up on information that was received of abalone that is stored at a premises in Hotna Street, Leiden Delft. Members operationalised the information and upon searching the premises found diving equipment and confiscated the items, an enquiry docket has been opened. At about 20:30, during stop and search operations, the members received information that drugs that are being sold at a premises in Scabiois Street, Delft South, Delft. When the members entered the property they noticed a male person running to the toilet. When they reached the toilet they found him flushing heroin down the toilet system. The 46-year-old male was arrested for possession of heroin and will appear at the Blue Downs Magistrates' court when charged. At an address in Blombos Street, Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain members found a 28-year-old male who tried to evade the members by running into a field after hiding a .38 mm Rossi revolver with five .38 mm rounds of ammunition on a roof of a dwelling. The members apprehended the male person and recovered the revolver. The suspect was taken to Lentegeur SAPS for detention and the firearm and ammunition were booked in as evidence. Once charged, the suspect will make his appearance in court. Police management in the province has lauded the efforts of the members who, as part of Operation Shanela, have made significant inroads in our fight against the proliferation of illegal firearms and ammunition in the province.
