NAMAHADI – Members of the Phuthaditjhaba Public Order Policing Unit arrested a 60-year-old man from Qwaqwa after receiving a tip from the community regarding a driver who was reportedly in possession of drugs.

A suspicious white Chevrolet Aveo with a single occupant was stopped by police yesterday at around 11:30 after they set up a vehicle roadblock along the R57. After stopping the car, officers searched the driver and the vehicle, discovering 102 suspected narcotics sachets and an undisclosed sum of money.

A follow-up search at the suspect’s rented residence led to the discovery of a revolver with its serial number removed, 16 rounds of ammunition, and additional suspected drugs believed to be Nyaope and Crystal Meth. The Chevrolet Aveo was also seized, as it was allegedly used in the transportation of the drugs.

The suspect has been charged and is expected to appear in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court today on charges of dealing in drugs, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.
