Anti-Gang Unit and Public Order police deployed to calm gang shooting in Ocean View that claimed lives of two people

CAPE TOWN - Ocean View police responded to a shooting incident between rival gangs in Libra Way in Ocean View on Tuesday evening, 24 February 2020. On arrival, they discovered that a seven year old girl had been shot and seriously wounded. She was transported to False Bay hospital by an ambulance. It emerged shortly thereafter that she died on arrival in hospital. Meanwhile a crowd that had gathered on the scene started attacking police.

As a consequence, Public Order Police and Anti-Gang Unit members were deployed in the area to quell the situation and restore calm.

After the situation had calmed down, police discovered that a 31-year-old man had also been shot and killed in the gang crossfire.

Detectives are investigating both murder cases. The investigation is also looking into the identity of the 31-year-old man.
